Severance Ritual: Cut the Cord with Clean Precision

May every thread between us dissolve cleanly; may their energy return to its source and mine to me, and may we walk separate paths from this moment forward.

Opening Reflection

Some connections outlive their purpose and begin to drain rather than nourish. When someone has taken more than they gave, lied more than they honored, or refused accountability while demanding your energy—you have every right to sever that tie. This ritual doesn't curse them with suffering; it simply returns their energy to them and reclaims yours. You are not being cruel. You are being clear. You are not being petty. You are protecting yourself. This severance is an act of self-preservation, not vengeance.

Invocation

May every thread between us dissolve cleanly; may their energy return to its source and mine to me, and may we walk separate paths from this moment forward.

Method

1. **Gather your materials.** You'll need scissors or a blade, black thread or yarn (about 12 inches), and a fireproof dish. Light a white or black candle if you have one.

2. **Hold the thread between your hands.** As you do, speak aloud everything this person took from you—your time, trust, peace, joy. Don't edit yourself. Let the thread absorb the weight of what was lost.

3. **Name the severance.** Say their name (or 'the one who harmed me' if naming feels unsafe) and declare: 'I cut this cord. What was mine returns to me. What was yours goes back to you. We are separate now.'

4. **Cut the thread cleanly.** Use your scissors or blade to sever it in the middle. Feel the snap of release in your chest.

5. **Burn one half.** Place their half in the fireproof dish and light it, watching it turn to ash. As it burns, imagine their claim on your energy dissolving into smoke.

6. **Keep or bury your half.** Your piece can be buried outside or kept as a reminder that you took your power back.

Closure & Aftercare

Wash your hands with cold water. Blow out the candle and say, 'It is done.' You may feel tired, relieved, or even sad—all are normal. Drink water, eat something grounding, and let yourself rest. The severance may echo through your dreams or thoughts for a few days. That's your system processing the release. The cord is cut. You are free.

Safety Notes

Use fire safely in a controlled container. If cutting feels triggering, you can tear the thread by hand instead.
